[From the community] Meet Gwen Sanchez

Gwen is one of these deeply passionate, constantly on the move, fascinating shadow artist manager. She got into music by the back-door as many of us and crossed the path of an extremely talented kid, Madeon, which she worked with for 6 years - together with Charly Dangelser, they moved to LA and made a splash in the electronic music scene. Back to London, Gwen joined Prolifica supporting Two Door Cinema Club's management and recently launched her own roster - one of those to definitely keep an eye on.

Tell us about you - what's your job, what do you do for a living?

I'm an artist manager based in London. I help artists build their careers - that's anything from nurturing their creative process to coordinating all the moving parts needed to bring their artistic vision to life... putting it *very* simply.

You've worked with Madeon from 2012 to 2019 - what do you remember from this experience as a manager?

Management isn't something I had considered doing until I met Madeon.. I was 22 at the time and had no idea what it was all about to be honest. I completely fell into it and immediately fell in love with it ! Madeon was such an incredible artist to work with. He constantly pushed creative boundaries and his attention to detail was nothing short of inspiring. It felt like a fast-track experience to management and gave me a solid understanding of what it takes for both artist and manager to navigate the thrilling chaos that is the music industry. I'm extremely grateful for the journey it took me on.

What's the best advice you'd tell someone who wants to work in music?

The road to success isn't going to be a straight one ! You'll need resilience, diligence and determination. The best things will happen when you let go of expectations and start trusting your instincts.

What's your favorite bedtime album ?

I'm gonna go with Waltz For Debby by Bill Evans Trio for bedtime. One of the artists I work with introduced me to that album and listening to it for the first time was the most soothing. Hijos Del Sol by Hermanos Gutiérrez is also beautiful.

The one for Sunday mood ?

My Sunday mood album has to be Mordechai by Khruangbin - best cosy vibes ! Their latest release Chocolate Hills with Leon Bridges was literally made for Sundays.

Which artist would you love to have a drink with? and what would you drink  ?

Daft Punk and I'll have whatever they're having.

What's an artist you're working with currently that you'd like to share with the community?

Feux ! This one has such a great year ahead of him... Life? and Still High are a great introduction to his music.
